Fall Creek Vineyards – Cabernet Sauvignon

April 16th, 2009 by Lee

Moving from beers to wine, this week’s Thirsty Thursday review is Fall Creek Vineyard’s Granite Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fall Creek Cab Sauv

Fall Creek Vineyards is a Texas winery located near Lake Buchanan. The winery was opened in 1975 and is known for their red wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon (Granite Reserve) is a blend: 85% Cab and 15% Merlot.

Appearance: Nice, rich red-purple color. No sediment.

Appearance Score (out of 5):

Aroma: Not a strong aroma – you really have to bury your nose into the glass to smell anything. There is a faint scent of fruit.

Aroma Score (out of 10):

Taste: There’s a powerful taste of dark fruit, probably a lot berries. It’s not overwhelming though – it actually makes the wine quite smooth. The Cabernet Sauvignon doesn’t have the kick of some of its cousins. Instead, it has a soft acidic taste.

Taste Score (out of 10):

Overall: At $9.00 a bottle, the Fall Creek Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Granite Reserve) is a good deal. I can imagine it would go well with a nice roast as it was quite tasty with a pastrami sandwich.

Overall Score (out of 10):
